Abstract

1285687 Citrate - isocitrate compositions PFIZER Inc 9 Sept 1970 [15 July 1970] 43231/70 Heading C2C Citrate-isocitrate compositions for use in detergent compositions or as chelating agents are prepared by the fermentation with a citric acid accumulating strain of Candida yeast of an aqueous nutrient medium containing at least one normal paraffin (9-23 C), clarifying and neutralizing or partially neutralizing the broth and concentrating or drying in a spray drier at air inlet temperature 200-350‹ C. and air exit temperature between 80-200‹ C. Sodium, potassium or ammonium hydroxide may be used in the neutralizing step and the resultant broth treated with activated carbon and concentrated to at least 30% w/v solids. Examples describe the use of Candida lipolytica in a medium containing C 14 -C 16 n-paraffins; n-hexadecane; a mixture of n-decane, n-nonane, n-undecane, ntridecane, n-pentadecane, n-hexadecane, and n-octadecane as the carbon source.
