Abstract

572,654. Cylinders. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON. Oct. 22, 1943, No. 17407. Convention date, Nov. 16, 1942: [Class 7 (ii)] A casing 7 surrounding ports 3 in the cylinder wall and formed separately from the cylinder or liner is supported so that it will remain co-axial with the cylinder or liner when subjected to radial expansion by providing the casing with opposed pins 12 slidably supported in brackets 17 secured to the supporting frame 5 of the cylinder. The pins are disposed in the central plane of the casing 7 and pass through the water jackets 16. Packings 22, 23 such as rubber rings in grooves permit the casing to move axially on the cylinder wall. The axes of the pins 12 is arranged transversely of the resultant of the gas pressures exerted on the casing to prevent them reacting on the cylinder.
