Abstract

187,851. Bradley, S. Nov. 3, 1921. Cylinders, cooling.-An annular space F open to the combustion chamber is formed between the liner on which the working piston slides and the cylinder wall G. The liner is built up of two portions, A and B, between which is a water space, which are kept apart by strips D. A partition S assists the circulation of the cooling water. An expansion joint may be provided at L or at R; in the latter case, the liner B may be integral with the jacket N, which itself may be dispensed with, the liner A being attached to the cylinder wall G. A jacket P, and a non- heat conducting or metallic lining K may be fitted to the cylinder wall G. The valves may be arranged in the main cylinder wall so that the annular chamber F is used as a passage for the gases if desired.
