Abstract
572,400. Shot making in towers. REMINGTON ARMS CO., Inc., and HYDE, G. E. March 31, 1944, No. 5979. [Class 83 (i)] In making dropped shot, the holes 23, Fig. 3, in the bottom 16 of the pan 19 into which the molten metal is poured are formed with a larger diameter 24 at their inlet than at their outlet ends to assist in holding a quantity of dross or other filter material. A continuous layer of dross over the bottom of the pan is not required. In a modification, holes are formed by using a thin bottom plate 16<1>, Fig. 5, with small holes 23<1> and a thick upper bottom plate 27 with larger but aligned holes 24<1>.
