Abstract
A method of incorporating blending or flavouring tobacco with a main body of tobacco comprises forming a solution, slurry or colloidal dispersion of finely divided particles of the blending or flavouring tobacco in water and applying the solution &c. in a uniform manner to the tobacco of the main body to form a coating thereon. The main body or the blending tobacco may comprise a mixture of different kinds of tobacco, and the main body include a proportion of blending tobacco. Up to 20 per cent. of the finished product may be blending tobacco but preferably the proportion is between 1 1/2 and 10 per cent. Essential oils may be added as flavouring agents. Slurries may be made of different blending tobaccos and be applied separately or simultaneously to the main tobacco. The blending tobacco is subjected to a dry grinding operation and then mixed with water or it may be ground wet with the required water content, the product being subjected to heat or pressure to accelerate hydration of the blending tobacco before being applied to the main tobacco by dipping or spraying. Subsequently the coating is dried to form a gel-like covering. The Specification as open to inspection under Section 91 refers to the use of other flavouring materials than tobacco or essential oils.
