Abstract
571,634. Electric toasters. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON, CO., Ltd. Dec. 21, 1943, No. 21398. Convention date, Dec. 24, 1942. [Class 28 (i)] A toaster for preparing ordinary or " Melba " toast has control means which reduce the heat and close an air inlet in the base of the toaster when toast of the latter type is required. Air normally enters slots 55a which are closed by a damper 53 when a knob 49 is depressed; switch contacts are simultaneously controlled by this knob to change the heater connections from parallel to series arrangement and to cut out the heating resistance 29 which controls the timing and toast-ejecting means. A knob 17, which also controls the main switch of the toaster, is then utilized to raise the toast for withdrawal. The preferred heating chamber construction is otherwise that which has been described in Specification 568,498.
