Abstract

571,354. Turn-wrest ploughs. HURLIMANN, H. Sept. 18, 1943, No. 15346. [Class 6 (i)] Power indepen-. dent of that for driving the tractor is provided for swinging the shares of a turnwrest plough. A shaft 26 is mounted in a frame 51, 56 pivoted to a main frame 4 fixed to the tractor. Depth of working is determined by adjusting the height of the shaft 26 where it is journalled in the frame 51. The adjusting handle 66 is mounted on a threaded rod 67 passing through a nut secured to slotted rods 69 working over a pin traversing the shaft. Arms 31a, 31b, project from a sleeve 31 rotatably mounted on the shaft 26. The arm 31a carries the beam 35 supporting the shares. Adjustable plates 48 are provided the arms 31a, 31b. and are each provided with a notch 49. A latch 50 under control of a lever 55 engages one of the notches and locks the shares in working position. A second sleeve 25 on the shaft 26 is coupled to the sleeve 31 and is connected by chains 24, 7'to a winch 6 actuated by an electric motor 8. The coupling comprises two doublearmed levers 29, 29a pivoted on an arm 28 of sleeve 25. One arm of each lever forms a counterweight, the other is hooked to engage one of a pair of studs 32, 33 fixed to the sleeve 31. The chain 24 attached to an arm 21 on the sleeve 25 bends around the sleeve, either on one side or the other, depending on which share is in working position, and release of the latch 50 and starting of the winch automatically produces the required turning movement. Adjacent ends of the chains 7, 24 are connected to a lever 22 pivoted to an extension 23 of an arm 42 carried by a stub shaft 43 pivoted to the shaft 25. In a modification, the lever 22 is straight, and the chain 24 replaced by a slotted plate connected by a pair of links to the sleeve 31. A control rod 12 has one connection 13 which both operates the motor switch and slides its armature to bring gears into mesh, a second connection 16 operating the brake shoes 18 on the winch-drum 20, and a third connection 63 to a set-screw 61. Fig. 2 shows the position for travel on the road. For working, the lever 12 is depressed releasing the brake and permitting the plough beam and shares to fall. Too rapid a fall may be prevented by pushing the lever further than for mere release. To raise the shares the lever 12 is lifted, again releasing the brake, sliding the motor armature into gear, and switching it on. As the share is lifted the frame part 51 is tilted. bringing the stop 50 against the set screw 61, drawing down the rod 63 and the hand-lever 12, and thus immobilising the motor and braking the winch. Then to swing the plough the lever 55 is raised, withdrawing the latch 50 and leaving the sleeve 31 and beam 35 free to turn about the shaft 26.
