Abstract
571,269. Film masking devices. MYNARD, A. March 23, 1944, No. 5441. [Class 97 (i)] In a film projector a member freely mounted on a shutter spindle is adapted to bring the shutter into phase with the film during masking by adjustment of the intermittent film sprocket gear, the said member carrying two connected gears of different diameters arranged for cooperation respectively with a gear loose on the shutter spindle adapted to be driven by the main gearing of the projector, and a gear fast on said spindle. As shown, the motor-driven gear 9 drives through a gear train 9, 8, 5 a maltese cross-member contained in a box 4 which is angularly adjustable about an intermittent sprocket shaft 2 and fixed to a gear 19 by. a lug 4a. Gear 9 also drives, through gears 10 and 11, a gear 12 freely mounted on a shutter spindle 3, the gear 12 driving the shutter spindle through gears 17 and 18, rotating together on a shaft 16 carried on a member 15 loose on the spindle 3, and a gear 13 fast on the spindle 3. Masking is carried out by angular adjustment of the maltese cross box 4 by rotation of a knob 22 and gear 20 meshing with the gear 19, the latter simultaneously rotating the gear 15 carrying a gear 17, 18 to adjust the phase of the shutter operation correspondingly.
