Abstract

571,230. Railway vehicles. BROCKHOUSE, M. I. Dec. 8, 1943, No. 20502. [Class 103 (iv)] A railway wagon of the well-platform or crocodile type is provided with two superimposed load-supporting platforms ; another feature is the forming of the main longitudinal elements of open-member girders. The base of the wagon well carries a load-carrying platform 17, which is termed a "lift platform " and rigidly supports by bracings 18 an upper platform 19, formed with tracks for motor vehicles. The lateral girders of the wagon include tubular struts 23 with hydraulic rams 24 to act upon the platform 19 and lift it together with the lift platform 17 into the positions shown in the Figure. The upper platform 19 is furnished with sloping portions 27, sloping downwardly into alignment with the bogie platforms 11 when the platform 19 is in its lower position and automatically raised as shown by rods 28 to allow admission of motor vehicles on to the lift platform 17 when the platform 19 is in its upper position.
