Abstract

570,539. Glass to metal seals. DARWINS, Ltd., LINLEY, A., and ADAMS. C. E. Oct. 11, 1943, Nos. 16583/43 and 20137/44. [Class 36] In a glass to metal seal, the metal wire or rod is deformed within the seal by displacing the metal surface at right angles to its length around the complete circumference of the wire. The rod 10, Fig. 2, may have one or more grooves 11 produced by a lateral rolling or swaging, the grooves being wholly contained within the glass wall 12. The grooves may be so close as to produce ribs 14 and on one side of the wall 12, the rod 10 may be reduced to a bendable part 16 springing from a shoulder 15 and rib 17. In a modification, Fig. 4, the rod 10 has flattened parts 18 at right angles, with a central cylindrical part 19.
