Abstract
570,245. Automatic smallarms. TRIGGS, W. W. (Western Cartridge Co.). June 15, 1943, No. 9572. [Class 119] The short-stroke piston 27 of a gas-operated automatic smallarm impacts the cross-head 29 of the action-slide 31 and drives it rearwardly in operation to the spring 41 to operate the gun. In order to protect the stock 15 from gases and hot particles escaping from the cylinder 22, the cross-head is extended forwardly as a cylindrical trough 30 enveloping the cylinder, as shown in Fig. 5, the side walls of the trough being grooved at 36 to receive guide ribs 37 on the barrel 19.
