Abstract
Rubber and allied gums and turpentine are preserved from oxidation by the incorporation therewith of a cycloalkoxy-diarylamine having at least four carbon atoms in the closed ring of the cycloalkoxy group. The compounds are prepared by the interaction of the corresponding hydroxy-diarylamine with a cycloalkoxy halide. The anti-oxidants have the general formula R-NH-R1-O-Y, where R is aryl or substituted aryl, R1 is arylene, and Y is a cycloalkoxy group. Examples of the method of preparation of the anti-oxidants which are stated to be of general application are: (1) the preparation of 4-cyclohexyloxy-diphenylamine by refluxing a solution of 4-hydroxy-diphenylamine in n-amyl alcohol containing dissolved metallic sodium for 24 hours with cyclohexyl chloride; (2) the preparation of 4-cyclohexyloxy-phenyl beta naphthylamine by refluxing cyclohexyl chloride with 4-hydroxy-phenyl beta naphthylamine under the same conditions as example (1). Examples of the efficiency of the antioxidants are given with respect to the use of the compounds prepared in examples (1) and (2) above in a rubber mix and in turpentine, using the method of Howland and Hart.ALSO:Rubber and allied gums are preserved from oxidation by the incorporation therewith of a cycloalkoxy-diarylamine having at least four carbon atoms in the closed ring of the cycloalkoxy group. The compounds are prepared by the interaction of the corresponding hydroxydiarylamine with a cycloalkoxy halide. The anti-oxidants have the general formula R-NH-R1-O-Y, where R is aryl or substitute aryl, R1 is arylene, and Y is a cycloalkoxy group. Examples of the method of preparation are given (see Group IV).
