Abstract

569,460. Exhaust pumps. TURNER, W. Feb. 11, 1944, No. 2529. [Class 8 (i)] A foot-operated exhaust pump consists of a cylinder 1 pivoted to a base 3, an inlet valve 4 and an outlet 6 on opposite sides of a piston 7. A hat leather packing 9 within retaining ring 11 serves to seal the piston rod, the upper end of which is pivoted at 14 to the two arms of a foot lever 12, ,which arms are pivoted to the base and linked together at their upper ends by a pedal 13. Compression spring 15 maintains the piston normalty at the top of its stroke. The inlet valve 4 is of the. ball type and is normally maintained closed by a weak spring 5 of such weight that the valve still remains operable by the residual pressure of the rear exhausted vessel attached.
