Abstract
2-Aliphatic substituted guanamines having one or more negative substituents in the aliphatic chain are prepared by reaction of a biguanide with an ester of a negatively substituted aliphatic carboxylic acid. The negative group may be cyano, carboxy, carbalkoxy, sulpho, nitro, acid amide, carbonyl, hydroxy or alkoxy. A solvent such as methanol or ethanol and a condensing agent such as a metal alkoxide may be used. Examples are given of the preparation of cyanoacetoguanamine from biguanide and ethyl cyanoacetate, a -cyano-g -ethyl-2-octenoguanamine from biguanide and methyl a -cyano-g -ethyl octenoate, b -ethoxypropionoguanamine, b -amyloxypropionoguanamine, b -oxydipropionoguanamine, a -bromoisovaleroguanamine, a ,a -dichlorostearoguanamine, amyloxysuccinoguanamine, b -carboxyamyloxypropionoguanamine, itaconoguanamine, methylene-carboxypropionoguanamine, levulinoguanamine with a pyrimidine derivative as by-product, 4-N-phenyl-b -methoxypropionoguanamine, lactoguanamine, malonoguanamine, carboxyacetoguanamine, succinoguanamine, b - carbomethoxypropionoguanamine, glutaroguanamine, adipoguanamine, sebacoguanamine, o - carbomethoxypelargonoguanamine, o - carbutoxypelargonoguanamine, o - carboxypelargoguanamine, b - carboxyacrylo - guanamine, methoxy - N - octylcarbamylpro - pionoguanamine, b -sulphopropionoguanamine, b - sulpho - b - carboxypropionoguanamine, o -sulphodecanoguanamine, 4 - N - phenyl - b - sulphopropionoguanamine, o - acetylundecanoguanamine, g -nitrovaleroguanamine, o -bromodecanoguanamine, and 9,10 - dibromostearo - guanamine.
