Abstract

To prevent the edge of a knitted fabric curling, plastic material is applied to the edge. The material may be cellulose, acetate, vinyl resin, polystyrene, acrylic resin, cellulose nitrate or celluloid, rubber, wax or glue. The knitted fabric may be of wool, cotton, rayon or glass filaments. The applied material may be water-soluble when it is desired to be removed after completion of a finishing process, and may be applied by means of a nozzle, brush or roller. The edges of the fabric may be heated and have strips of thermoplastic material applied to it. In producing flat strips of fabric by cutting fabric knitted on a circular machine, the material may be applied to a longitudinal strip of the inside of the knitted tube and the tube cut along the centre line of the stiffening material.
