[Class 38 (v)] In order to force low-current arcs into the arc-chute of an air-break switch, for example, the arc-chute of Specification 560,257, a concentration of magnetic flux is produced in a narrow gap between the polepieces of a magnetic circuit, through which gap the movable contact arm or blade moves and draws the arc. The pole faces may be covered by insulating material to prevent contact with the movable contact. The polepieces may be energized by. a current coil, or form part of a magnetic circuit extending in the direction of movement of, so as to be energized by, the arc.
