Abstract
567,820. Sewing-machines. SINGER MANUFACTURING CO. Aug. 28, 1943, No. 14097. Convention date, Sept. 3, 1942. [Class 112] A rotary thread take-up has thread-severing means when the thread becomes abnormally wound about the take-up mechanism. Means are provided for throwing the severed end of the thread out of the path of rotation of the take-up member. A take-up disc 14, on the machine main shaft 13 has a pair of studs 15, and supplies thread to a needle 12 from a tension device 44. The thread passes about a guide 45, over a thread-controlling member 19 on a rear take-up disc 18, and is guided by deflecting fingers 41, 43 before passing to the studs 15. The studs carry a flat threadconfining ring 16 held axially spaced from the disc 14. A supplementary rear take-up device' is also included. A rotary shaft 17, parallel with the shaft' 13, revolves at twice the speed of the latter and carries the disc 18 which, preferably, lies in the same plane as the disc 14. The member 19 extends axially from the disc 18 and has a slot 20. Should the thread t become wound around the part 19; as shown in Fig. 4, a knife 31, extending axially across a, slot between two rings 21, 22, severs the thread extending over the slot 20. A guard-plate 35 and a face-plate 24 have bent-over flanges. These, together with plates 25, 27, confine the thread. Arms 38, 39 are adjustably mounted on the guard 35 and carry the fingers 41, 43. The slack thread given up by the member 19 is normally supported by the fingers and prevented from engaging the knife 31. The edge of the knife need not be sharp. Severed thread is thrown outwards from the take-up by the finger 41.
