Abstract

1292490 Sewing machines HUSQVARNA VAPENFABRIKS AB 4 June 1970 [9 June 1969] 27060/70 Heading D1G In a method of replenishing the bobbin thread in a sewing machine without remaining a workpiece, sewing is stopped while thread remains on the bobbin, the over thread is drawn up from the loop taker mechanism by the thread take-up lever, the bobbin is removed, the thread 6 extending therefrom positioned as in a groove 14 and a full bobbin with a thread 7 extending therefrom is placed in the machine, the thread 7 being placed together with the thread 6 for cutting. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the threads 6 and 7 extend along the groove 14 in a plate 10 and abut a fixed cutter 18. On closing a pivoted cover 9 a further cutter blade 19 cooperates with the fixed cutter 18 to sever the threads. In a modification (Figs. 6, 7, not shown), a spring urged liftable brake shoe (28) presses against the threads 6, 7 adjacent the bobbin case, when they have been placed in the groove. In an alternative (Fig. 5) the threads 6 and 7 are placed between a spring loaded flanged disc 22 and a plate 10 which together act as a brake and the free ends severed by being drawn across a V-shaped cutting edge 26. If a second bobbin is not available, the upper thread may be cut between the needle and a work piece and wound onto the bobbin after passing through the thread tensioner, the takeup lever and the needle eye. The bobbin is then replaced.
