Abstract
567,467. Regulating ; valve gear. NUNN & CO., Ltd., H. E., and MOONEY, M. Aug. 11, 1943, No. 12945. [Class 7 (vi)] In an electric welding plant driven by an engine normally working under a governorcontrolled throttle valve 1, Fig. 3, a second throttle valve 2 is adapted to be drawn into an idling position by suction from the inlet manifold applied to a piston 7 in a cylinder 5, a compression spring 8 forcing the piston outwards to open the throttle when the suction is destroyed by opening a valve 18 normally held closed by an electromagnet arranged across the generator 20 and a dashpot device 11, Fig. 2, coupled to the piston 7 delaying the closing of the valve 2 to the idling position when the load is released; by this arrangement, the engine speed and generator current do not fall off if the arc is inadvertently broken, or if an electrode needs changing. An adjustable escape valve 12 on the dashpot cylinder 6 regulates the delay action.
