Abstract

567,328. Photographic material. TOLAND, W. C., and BASSIST, E. Aug. 3, 1943, No. 12508. [Class 98 (ii)] Photographic negative material comprises a support including a urea formaldehyde resin which dries into a layer of water-wettable material and thereafter sets to a water-repellent state, a coating of water-wettable material bonded to the support, and a layer of lightsensitive material overlying the coating of water-wettable material. The support may comprise paper 1, e.g. kraft paper, impregnated with a sizing agent, e.g. polyvinyl alcohol or other polyvinyl compounds, rosin size, or a mixture of a polyvinyl compound and rosin size. The polyvinyl alcohol or other size may be water-absorbent to a slight degree. Gelatin or glue may also be used as the size. To both sides, of the impregnated paper support are applied thin layers 2 of an aqueous dispersion of a urea formaldehyde resin (e.g. Plaskon or the material known under the Registered Trade Mark " Casco ") containing a hardening agent for converting the resin from a water-wettable condition to a water-repellent state, and then to one side is applied a substratum layer 3 of sodium silicate or albumen, and finally a gelatin silver halide emulsion layer 4. Modified material comprises a urea formaldehyde resin support, a substratum layer and a light-sensitive emulsion layer.
