Abstract

553,341. Photographic stripping material. KODAK, Ltd. (Eastman Kodak Co.). Sept. 10, 1941, No. 11628. [Class 98 (ii)] Dry-stripping photographic material comprises a temporary support having a hydrophilic substratum such as gelatin coated thereon, a stripping layer of wax which has been polished by calendering, a cellulose ester permanent support, and a sensitive photographic emulsion layer inseparably coated on the permanent support. A gelatin or other substratum layer may be provided between the permanent support and the emulsion layer. The cellulose ester may be cellulose nitrate, acetate, or acetate-propionate. The temporary paper support may be sized with gelatin. The gelatin coating applied to the temporary support may consist of a 7 per cent gelatin solution containing chrome alum. The wax coating is applied from an aqueous emulsion of carnauba wax prepared by adding wax to boiling water; adding sodium hydroxide, passing through a colloid mill, and diluting with water. The celulose nitrate support may be plasticized with castor oil. The silver halide emulsion may contain starch as a matting agent. The material may be used in colour photography, for example in the production of a masking image. Specifications 12152/99, [Class 98], 29616/12 and 12091/15, [both in Class 98 (ii)], are referred to.
