Abstract

735,417. Photographic material. KODAK, Ltd. Oct. 30, 1953 [Oct. 31, 1952], No. 30107/53. Class 98 (2). Photographic material having at least one light-sensitive layer contains in at least one of its layers a compound of the general formula wherein R is an aryl group. The compound may be applied in a coating having a gelatin, cellulose ester, or synthetic resin binder over the light-sensitive layer, or between the blue- and green- or the green- and red-sensitive emulsion layers of colour photographic material. The compound may be incorporated in the emulsion instead of or in addition to being present in another layer. The coating composition may be prepared by mixing a tricresyl phosphate solution of 9-benzalfluorene with a gelatin dispersion. The photographic material may be bathed in an aqueous solution of the compound when it contains a water-solubilizing carboxylic, sulphonic or hydroxy group. The compound may be incorporated in the material during manufacture or in the finished and processed material.
