[Class 78 (v)] [Also in Group XXXIII] A fairlead for a cable through a partition, for example, in an aeroplane, comprises a tubular guide block with a spherical exterior mounted on a clamp engaging the spherical surface and supported on the partition and in a modified form, the guide hole in the block can be adjusted laterally so as to avoid the necessity for accuracy in the original positioning of the clamp on the partition. The guide block 16 is in two parts with semi-cylindrical central recess 12 and dowel locating means 13, 14 and fits between circular openings 31, 21 in two plates 30, 20 the latter having struck-out tongues 23 with flanges 24 to engage the partition A when the whole is attached by screws c which pass through holes a<1>, 25 and engage nut-like edges 33 struck up to form threaded edges in holes 32 in the farther plate 30. In a cheaper construction, the partition D, Fig. 4, may form one cheek of the clamp. When an adjustable guide hole is necessary the fairlead is formed in three parts, a central double conical barrel 40 with guide passage 43 eccentric of U-section leading to the periphery, retained between two ring members 50 of identical form with interlocking gate and tongue 52, 57, the outer surface of the assembled members being spherical for mounting as in the preceding form in Fig. 1. A notch 45 in the barrel 40 can be used to adjust it with a screw-driver to suit the partition opening. This three-part fairlead can also be mounted, as shown in Fig. 9, with the partition D forming one cheek of the clamp.
