Abstract

565,905. Removing dust and fluff from carding-engines. HOLT, S., and WARD, C. V. June 16, 1943, No. 9679. [Class 120 (iii)] [Also in Group XXVIII] Dust and fluff are removed from a cotton or like carding-engine by applying suction to the undercard casing at about floor level, air being admitted through inlets to the casing at or near the floor level so that dust, fluff, &c. are swept from the floor below the carding-engine into the exhaust system. An entrance a to the exhaust trunk b, having a slide, damper or other control (not shown), is provided in the base substantially centrally beneath the machine A and louvred inlets d at about floor level are provided for the admission of air. The dust-laden air is filtered at e and after passing through the fan c may be returned to the cardroom. Instead of the entrance a a suction inlet f may be provided at one end or in the side of the machine. The Provisional Specification describes also a revolving filter or screen of the disc or drum type in which at each revolution a portion of the surface of each disc or of the drum is blanked off from the air flow so that fluff deposited thereon can be removed, e.g. by a roller or scraper. A number of screens with graded perforations may be used in series.
