Abstract

565,681. Stamping. HELLIWELLS, Ltd., and RANSOM, J. May 17, 1943, No. 4307. [Class 83 (iv)] In stamping sheet metal by the rubber bolster process, the rubber bolster is replaced by sand or like free-flowing granular material and the deformation is effected by the application of fluid pressure thereto. A two-part chamber a<1>, a<2> is bolted together at k with an interposed diaphragm b, e.g. of rubber, to support the sand c in the upper chamber, fluid pressure being applied at h to the lower chamber to effect the stamping of the sheet metal d, which, together with the die e, is laid upon the surface of the sand. A sealing ring g and cover f are provided. If desired, a sheet j of cloth &c. may be placed between the sheet metal and the sand to prevent the sand from marking the sheet and from obtaining access to the top thereof. Liquid may be added to the sand &c. to form a paste.
