Abstract

565,495. Printing processes. LYONS & CO., Ltd., J., and HENDRICK, W. T. S. Feb. 11, 1943, No. 2299. [Class 100 (ii)] [Also in Group III] In a machine for applying wax or other material requiring heat to reduce it to a suitable consistency for printing, to box blanks, &c., the wax &c. is printed by a roller 30 etched or engraved, e.g. along fold lines 2, to leave printing areas in relief to which areas the wax &c. is applied by the edge of a felt strip 4 to which the molten wax is continuously supplied from a duct 12 connected to a supply tank 10. The printing roller may be provided with electrical heating elements 3. The tank 10 discharges into a duct 7 leading to a number of the ducts 12 controlled by valves 16 urged to the closed position by springs 17 and having collars 18 connected by suitable linkage to a governor controlling the speed of the machine so that the supply of wax varies with the speed of printing. The felt strip 4 is mounted on a tray 23 slidable on the base of the valve block 6 so that the strip may be withdrawn from contact with the roller 30 when the machine is idle. Instead of a gravity feed of the wax from the tank 10, the wax may be continuously circulated through the duct 7 from a feed tank, excess passing to a second tank connected by a pipe to the feed tank.
