Abstract
565,369. R÷ntgen-ray tubes. MACHLETT LABORATORIES, Inc. Nov. 23, 1942, No. 16578. Convention date, Jan. 26, 1942. [Class 39 (i)] [Also in Group XXXVI] The leads to the cathode 18, Fig. 2, are brought out to terminals 25, 26 mounted on an insulating disc 23, within a re-entrant stem 12. A cable 34 slides into the re-entrant stem and spring contacts 36, 38 on its end engage terminals 25, 26. When in position, the terminals and contacts are sealed off from the atmosphere by insulating cylinder 39 abutting against insulator 23. The cylinder 39 may be synthetic rubber and the space it encloses may be filled with petroleum jelly. The cable is secured to the casing 29, Fig. 1, by a flare 41. Cathode 18 is mounted between two projecting parts of a focusing block 16. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes a copper anode 39, Fig. 4 (cancelled), provided with cooling ducts 42 and inserted into the other end of the tube. Rays emitted at an angle of 6 degrees from the target layer 38 pass through beryllium windows 46 brazed across openings 36 in the metal wall 34. A metal cap 48 with a conical angle of 6 degrees surrounds this part of the tube and forms part of the grounded casing. The deposition of excessive material upon the target is prevented by a wire 47, Fig. 2, passing directly in front of the cathode 18. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
