Abstract
232,202. Naamlooze Vennootschap Philips' Gloeilampenfabrieken. April 10, 1924, [Convention date]. Vacuum tubes; R÷ntgenray tubes.-In a tube with an incandescent cathode, joints between metallic and insulating parts of an envelope are protected against electrostatic strain by providing within the envelope a number of metal partitions having different potentials and between which electrons when moving towards the seals must pass in such a way as to reverse their motion at least once. In the X-ray tube shown, these partitions 17, 18 are attached to the anticathode 12 and to the cover of a metal vessel 2 enclosing the cathode filament 5 and sealed at 30 to a double glass tube 1 insulating the cooled anticathode. The other end of the metal vessel'2 is sealed to a glass window 3 for the X-rays and fitted with an annular disc 10. One end of the filament is supplied with current through the metal vessel, to which the negative, battery terminal is preferably connected. Electrons strike the anti-cathode over an area limited by the metal cover 11, in which is an aperture 13. The metal vessel and anti-cathode may be of chromium-iron alloy, a tungsten target being fitted to the anticathode. In a modification, the overlapping partitions are at right-angles to the axis of the tube.
