[Class 34 (ii)] [Also in Groups I, II and III] In rotary drum apparatus for mixing divided solid materials or treating such materials with gaseous material, the wall is formed without an outer rotatable cylindrical shell by a plurality of overlapping and spaced apart plates 6 extending rearwardly of the drum in relation to the direction of rotation, some or all the plates bearing a ledge 17 directed inwardly of the drum at such an angle that material is not lifted by it above the bed of material. The drum may taper outwardly from its inlet end. In a modification, the plates may extend from radial plates at the edge of the drum. The plates may be formed of two flat plates meeting at an. angle. Troughs may be formed at the outer ends of the plate.
