563,293. Drying systems. DUNFORD & ELLIOTT (SHEFFIELD), Ltd., and LINDARS, H. Dec. 28, 1942, Nos. 18429/42 and 21600/43. [Class 34 (ii)] [Also in Group XII] A rotary drum for mixing solid materials or for bringing gases into contact with divided materials is fitted with a series of overlapping and spaced apart plates extending inwards from the shell and rearwards having regard to the direction of rotation, all or some of such plates having a ledge directed inwardly and at an angle to the rest of the plate, and such that material is not lifted by it above the general mass. Various modifications, Figs. 5 to 9 (not shown), are described. In the example, Fig. 3, each plate comprises a radial part 7, a rearward part 8 and ledges 9. In some of the other modifications no radial part 7 is used, the plates 8 being attached direct to the drum. Gases for treating or drying enter the passages 12 whenever, in rotation, they come opposite apertures in a fixed head at one end of the drum. Specifications 269,892, [Class 51 (ii)], 278,722, [Class 8 (ii)], and 404,632 are referred to.
