Abstract

565,038. Friction clutches. JONES & CO., Ltd., T. C., and SHAW, C. S. April 16, 1943, No. 6129. [Class 80 (ii)] A clutch plate 6 is clamped between a pair of plates 4, 10 by toggle mechan. ism comprising double links 19 pivoted at one 'end 18 to a slidable actuating sleeve 17 and at the other end 20 to bolts 22 which pass through clear ance holes 23 in the plate 4 and engage the plate 10 by nut: 24. A roller 25 at each joint 20 co-operates with a cam.face 26 on the plate 4 to produce the clamping force when the sleeve 17 is moved to the right. Each nut 24 has recesses engageable with a. projection 28 on the plate 10 to allow of pivotal action. The plate 10 is guided on pins 13 fixed to the plate 4, and springs 16 on the pins 13 tend to produce clutch disengagement. Additional springs for the same purpose may be arranged on the bolts 22.
