Abstract

584,586. Friction clutches. BORG & BECK CO., Ltd., and GODFREY, L. P. Jan. 5, 1945, No. 539. [Class 80 (ii)] In a friction clutch having one or more driven discs 12 clamped between an abutment plate 10 and an axially movable pressure plate 13 under spring pressure, radially disposed release levers 22 fulcrumed on a cover plate 11 fixed to the abutment plate coact with lugs 17 on the pressure plate through pads 19 and wedges 31, each of which latter can be moved radially on slacking off its clamping bolt 32 to adjust the relative setting of the levers and to bring their inner ends into a common plane for simultaneous operation by the clutch release bearing 28. If the thicker end of the wedge is towards the clutch axis, as shown, centrifugal force assists to hold it firmly in position.
