Abstract
564,606. Valve relay circuits. BROWNLEE, H. H. Jan. 12, 1943, No. 573. [Class 40 (v)] [Also in Group VIII] Control means for a textilepressing machine adapted to operate on moist articles, e.g. for ironing and pressing garments, comprises an electric circuit, the current in which is dependant on the humidity of the article. Fig. 3 shows a circuit in which the conductivity of the article 44 controls the grid potential of a valve 37 and thus 'the energization of a magnetically-operated valve 11. An alternating current supply is used so that the valve 37 is operative in one half-cycle and developes a voltage in the resistance condenser combination 38, 39 which determines the control grid voltage of the valve 34 in the succeeding half-cycle. Alternatively, a thermostat cooled by contact with the damp article may be used, in which case operation of the machine is effected by switches 30a, 31a to ensure protection of the operator, while selfholding relay 40a maintains operation until the operating solenoid is de-energized by the thermostat 54, 55, Fig. 6. Operation of the machine is effected by means of compressed air, a piston cylinder and a system of levers working on the toggle principle and release by a counterweight and retractile springs, as shown in Fig. 1 of Specification 564,605.
