Abstract

564,485. Reinforced concrete &c. ships. YOURKEVITCH, V. Feb. 10, 1943, No. 2243. Convention date, April 15, 1942. [Class 113 (ii)] A ship's hull made of reinforced material, such as concrete or plastic, comprises bow and stern sections 12, 13 connected by a number of substantially tangential parallel tubular units which have, their adjacent portions connected 'together. Each tubular unit may comprise a number of cylindrical sections 7 secured to each other end to end, whilst a deck 14 and a bottom 15, with or without a keel or fins, are secured to the parts 7, 12, 13 by means of radial anchorages 8, 9. Each section may be formed by centrifugal moulding ; the projecting portions of the reinforcing bars 2 are welded together and enclosed in concrete, as at 11. Alternatively, the sections may have flanges 19 bolted together, some being formed to provide bulkheads with reinforcing ribs 18. The anchorages 8 may comprise horizontally or vertically overlapping lugs bolted together with resilient material to provide flexibility. In the modification shown in Fig. 15, two tubular sections 20, 21 are cast integrally with a deck section 24 and a bottom section 23.
