Abstract
564,311. Treating spring leaves. IBBOTSON BROS. & CO., Ltd., and LLOYD, F. July 10, 1943, No. 11213. [Classes'83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] The leaves of laminated springs are work hardened on one side only by a cold rolling process. The leaf c to be treated is supported on a platen b and acted on by a small diameter roll a. Pressure may be applied either to the roll or the platen and the rolls may have backing rollers e. The plates may be reciprocated or the roll may be traversed. More than one roll may be employed and the roll may be skewed to the direction of traverse. If two skew rolls are employed, they are skewed in opposite directions. The platen may be replaced by a large diameter roll or segment. The leaves may be treated in either flat or cambered form. If it be desired to treat both sides, then the leaf is turned over prior to further rolling.
