Abstract
564,237. Projection screens. KODAK, Ltd. June 16, 1943, No. 9675. Convention date, June 30, 1942. [Class 97 (i)] A rear projection screen comprises a light-absorbing layer into which external light - refracting bodies each forming alight aperture therethrough. The bodies may be spherules 17 of glass, natural or synthetic resin, &c., and may be coloured or colourless. The lightabsorbing layer 16 may be dyed thermoplastic material, gelatin, lacquer, Brunswick black, asphalt varnish, exposed, developed and fixed photographic emulsion, &c., and may support the spherules 17. The layer 16 may be supported on a glass or other transparent sheet 15, or may be stripped therefrom, and the spherules may contact with the sheet 15, or may be separated therefrom by a thin portion of the layer 16. The screen may be made by feeding the sheet 15 by an endless belt under a hopper delivering the light-absorbing medium thereto, into a drying chamber, under a box delivering the spherules on to the layer 16, and into a heating chamber ; the spherules then settle into the layer 16 and may be rolled into it. Distribution to form a single layer may be effected by a doctor, or air jets, or by agitation of the sheet 15. The layer 16 hardens when the screen has passed from the heating chamber and may be stripped from the sheet 15.
