Abstract
563,939. Chain hoists. TRIGGS, W. W. (Yale & Towne Manufacturing Co.). Dec. 8, 1942, No. 17459. [Class 78 (v)] To prevent the vibration which occurs in the body of a chain hoist or like apparatus 10 owing to the continuous 'reciprocatory displacement of the chain line. due to the radial movement of the last, or first, link 37a contacting with the sprocket teeth 33 which takes place as the sprocket 26 rotates, an abutment 46 is provided beneath the sprocket wheel 26 against which the chain links which are approaching or leaving the sprocket bear. The change of load line from L to L<1> and back which would thus normally occur and set up vibration is prevented. The abutment 46 may be carried by a chain stripper 42 slotted at 45 and pivoted at 43. The surface of the abutment may be sufficiently narrow to allow the chain rollers 34 to bear directly thereon, and its top and bottom edges 46a, 46b are preferably rounded. The length of the abutment should be greater than the pivotal length of a link.
