563,490. Frequency and phase modulation. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Feb. 10, 1943, No. 2205. Convention date, Feb. 10, 1942. [Class 40 (v)] A circuit for the alternative reception of F.M. or A.M. waves comprises a balanced discriminator associated with a pair of rectifiers, and a switch is arranged to take off push-pull audio voltages either across a balanced pair of impedances for F.M. reception, or across anode and cathode impedances common to both rectifiers for A.M. reception. The intermediate frequency is supplied to a discriminator of the phasing type comprising coupled tuned circuits 1, 2 and 4,' 5 and the secondary voltages are applied to the grids of grid-leak rectifiers 10, 11. The valve anodes are connected to impedances 12, 13, the junction of which is connected to B + through a resistance 16. For receiving F.M. signals, push-pull audio voltages are taken off by switching the arms 22, 23 to terminals FM connected to the valve anodes. For receiving A.M. signals, the switch arms are moved to contacts AM so as to pick up pushpull audio voltages from across the cathode impedance .18 and the anode impedance 16 respectively.
