Abstract

563,017. Attaching bags to cycles. GETGOOD, R. F. Dec. 16, 1942, No. 17865. [Class 136 (i)] A general purpose bag G, which may be carried by hand, is adapted to be detachably secured to one side of the luggage-carrier of a cycle by means comprising tubes A fixed to the carrier through which are passed rods B secured to the bag. The bag is made of cloth stiffened at the base H and along the side edges J of the open end, the rods B being hinged at L on one of the edges so as to hang down, as at B<1>, against the side of the bag when carried by hand. To secure the bag to the carrier, the rods are swung about the hinges L across the open mouth of the bag and engaged in slots in catches M fixed to the other edge J. Stops N fixed on the rods abut the catches M to hold open the mouth of the bag and the parts of the rods projecting beyond the catches are then passed into the carrier tubes A. One or more turnbuttons C prevent separation of the bag and carrier. The tubes A may be formed integral with the carrier or each tube may be adapted to be secured to existing carriers by a pair of brackets, one of which is rigidly secured at one end of the tube for attachment to one side of the carrier and the other slidable on the tube for attachment to the other side of the carrier, thus allowing the tubes to be fitted to carriers of different widths. A bag may be attached to each side of the carrier.
