562,907. Dynamo-electric machines. STEVENS, A. H. (Thompson Products, Inc.). Feb. 10, 1943, No. 2226. [Class 35] [Also in Group XXVI] A fuel pump for aircraft or supported from the bottom or side of a tank comprises an electric motor 41, 42 driving the pump 25, 26 through a shaft 27 which passes through a chamber between the pump or motor casings provided with a seal against fuel leakage and a flame barrier 71. Any fuel that leaks past the seal is flung towards a vent by a skirt rotating with the shaft. The shaft 27 is keyed to the pump impeller 25 by an L-shaped key engaging curved slots in the shaft and impeller respectively. Cooling air is drawn in through a porous plug 81 over the motor by suction induced by a pipe 83 projecting into the slipstream and connected to one of the ports 67.
