[Class 106 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXVII] A driven member arranged to he rotated by a machine to be controlled &c., exerts a rotational drag on a motion responsive member to move it within predetermined limits in one direction, a switch or indicator being operated by the return, under gravity or spring, of the motion responsive member. In the example, a pair of flanged discs 16, 17 a,re clamped, with the inner races of ball bearings 18, 19 on a shaft 13 connected to the machine and the assembly is mounted in a casing 12 containing thin oil. Between the discs an annular body 25 runs, carrying the outer races of the bearings and, externally, a rod 31 with a roller 32. As the shaft 13 rotates, the frictional drag of the oil &c. causes the rod 31 to rise against gravity, and move past a hinged arm on switch without operating it, as far as a predetermined stop. When speed of rotation falls, the arm falls and operates the switch to give a signal or stop the motor driving the machine. The return of the arm may be spring-assisted. In a modification, the inner and outer parts of a ball bearing may replace the discs and annular body, while in a further example the driving and driven members comprise discs facing one another with blade for impelling oil from one to the other.
