Abstract

561,893. Smash-plate pumps. POWERED MOUNTINGS, Ltd., NASH, A. G. FRAZER-, and WAGHORNE, H. Feb. 18, 1941, No. 2214. [Class 102 (i)] In a multi-cylinder swash-plate pump, the delivery of liquid is automatically controlled in accordance with the pressure developed by transmitting the pressure reaction on the pistons 13 through the swash-plate 6, 8, a cam-following roller 35 and a cam 37, to springs 44 which abut against a surface 45 on the pump casing 1. The swash-plate comprises a non-rotatable ring 8 and a rotatable collar 6 with ribs 34 which carry the roller 35 and a member 32 to counterbalance the roller, whilst the cam has an extension 40 carrying a sleeve 42 with a recess 43 for the springs 44. The sleeve 42 has surfaces 46 engaged by the ends 47 of arms 48 on a fork member 49 which is pivoted at 50 within the casing 1 and carries a yoke piece 51 having a surface to co-operate with an eccentric 53 on a shaft 54. Rotation of this shaft therefore moves the cam 37 axially in opposition to the springs 44 and different portions of the cam contour are presented to the roller 35 to reduce the inclination of the swash-plate and the output, without stopping the pump.
