Abstract

539,637. Swash-plate pumps and motors. PRATT, J. H., MANLEY, G. E., and GIRLING, A. H. G. June 13, 1940, No. 10292. [Class 102 (i)] [Also in Group XXIX] In a swash-plate type of pump or motor in which the connecting rods are always normal, or substantially normal, to the swash-plate irrespective of the position of the pistons, the connecting rods 15 are articulated to the pistons 14 and to a common thrust member 16 which is slidably mounted relative to the swash-plate 18a, 18b, or to a bearing member 17 associated with the swash-plate. The connecting rods are connected to the pistons by ball-and-socket joints, and to the thrust member 16 by semicylindrical bearings 15a at right angles to the connecting rods and held in position by a spring spider plate 21. The connecting rods are formed with axial passages 15b which connect the interior of the cylinders 7c with chambers 16a formed on the face of the thrust member 16 and providing wedge-shaped films of lubricant between the members 16, 17. The member 17 has an annular projection 17a forming a circular line contact with the pressure surface of the part 18a of the swash-plate. The part 18b of the swash-plate is attached to a control rod 19 and is supported by a stirrup 18c the arms of which engage overhanging trunnions 26a carried by posts 26. Between adjacent ends of arcuate inlet and outlet ports 6b in a common valve plate 6, there are provided lubricating chambers 6c similar to the chambers 16a.
