Abstract
556,394. Swash-plate pumps and motors. HAWLEY, J. B. Dec. 15, 1941, No. 16150. [Class 102 (i)] [Also in Groups XXVI and XXIX] In a hydraulic pump or motor comprising a rotary cylinder barrel 27 and a rotary swashplate 32, the inclination of the swash-plate is varied by a tilting plate 47 having a stem 51a carrying a fork 51 in which is journalled a pin 55 extending through a block 53 fitted between the arms of the fork, the flat top and bottom surfaces of the block being engaged by roller bearings 57 carried by a cage 59a on a vertically movable control shaft 59 which extends along the sides of the fork 51 to the exterior of the box-like casing 15. The latter is fitted with a front plate 16, a valve plate 17, and angled supports 18, all secured together by bolts 19, 21, the plates 16, 17 carrying bearings 23, 24 and a thrust plate 25 for the driving shaft 26. A spring 31 bears against a yoke 26b on the shaft 26 within the swash-plate 32 and presses the cylinder barrel 27 against the valve plate 17. The barrel 27 is formed with cylinders 27b for pistons 38 with ball-ended piston rods 40 connected to the swash-plate 32. The cage 59a has cylindrical outer surfaces to engage a bore 16b in the plate 16 and is guided by a key member 60. Roller bearings 68 are disposed between hard bearing plates 46, 67 on the swash-plate 32 and the tilting plate 47 respectively. The tilting plate 47 has large trunnions journalled in bearings 48, and its inclination is indicated by a pointer 74 secured to one of the trunnions and enclosed by a sealed cover plate 80. The valve plate 17 and the pistons 38 are all made of high-nickel steel with welded-on hard bronze bearing surfaces. Inlet and discharge openings 27c in the cylinders 27b are connected to inlet and outlet conduits 90 by means of diametrically opposite arcuate slots 17d with short end grooves 17dd and centrally bridged by metal pieces 17j of small cross-section. The valve plate 17 is also formed with annular grooves 17g connected by a series of passages 17i to holes 17h which supply pressure fluid or lubricating oil to its bearing surface. The casing 15 may be provided inside the bolts 19, 21 with a thin light-metal cylindrical casing 120 to prevent friction, and with an external connection for an expansion number.
