Abstract

1501471 Reciprocating compressors JAPAN STEEL WORKS Ltd 21 May 1975 [9 Oct 1974] 22006/75 Heading F1N A compressor comprises a swash-plate 2 connected to a driving shaft 1, a ring of equi-angularly spaced guide cylinders formed in a block 4, 4', a cylindrical guide-member 6, 6' reciprocable in each guide cylinder by the swash-plate 2, and a plurality of pumping pistons, 11, 11' each connected by a sealed piston-rod 10 to one of the guide-members 6, 6'. Each guide-member 6, 6' has a cut-away middle part into which projects the periphery of the swash-plate 2. The ends of the guide-members 6, 6' are bored to receive rod members 7, 7' retained by screws 9. The members 7, 7' have spherical inner ends on which bearing blocks 8, 8' are universally mounted, the blocks 8, 8' engaging opposite surfaces of the swash-plate 2 with a minimum of clearance as determined by shims 70. The block 4, 4' is mounted in a housing 14 to which are bolted housings 15 containing the cylinders 20 for the pumping pistons 11, 11', the latter having selflubricating piston rings 22. Oil lubrication is confined to the housing 14 since the piston-rods 10 pass through seals 24 mounted in partitions 23 in the housings 15. A pump 3 draws oil from a sump 50 and delivers it through passages 51, 53, 53' in the block 4,4' to annular chambers 54, 54' surrounding the shaft 1. From the chambers 54, 54', the oil flows through radial passages 55, 55' in the block 4, 4', grooves 56, 56' and radial bores 58, in the guide-members 6, 6' to chambers 57 in the screws 9 and thence via passages 59, 61 to the sliding surfaces of the bearing blocks 8,8'. Gas enters and leaves the cylinders 20 through valve blocks 30.
