Abstract

561,034. Electricity supply. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Dec. 3, 1942, No. 17210. Convention date, Dec. 3, 1941. [Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXVI] An electrical bus-bar distribution system comprises a plurality of bus-bars 10 each sheathed in insulation 14 clamped together and supported at intervals by metallic frames 15 secured in a conduit 16. Each conductor may consist of two bus-bars 10, 10<SP>1</SP> connected by a bar 11 and interleaved with other bus-bars to reduce the impedance. Each bus-bar is sheathed in a felted asbestos-fibre tube 14, the tubes being preferably surrounded by an air-space except at the supports where each tube is enclosed by two-part insulating sleeves 21. Each frame 15 consists of a plate 17 with flanges 18, 19 on three sides and a central opening 20, clamping and abutment plates 22, 23 with screws 24 being provided at one or both sides. Each frame may be in two or more parts. The bus-bars may be supported by angles 25 welded or adjustably secured to plate 17, and the ends of the bus-bars are connected by staggered metal tubes. Each conduit consists of two channels 30, 31 with lateral flanges 32 connected by strips 33 which are also connected to the flanges 19 used to secure the frames 15 to the conduit. When take-off terminals 37 are required, an extension box 38 is provided.
