Abstract

595,819. Electricity supply. G.M. ENGINEERING (ACTON), Ltd., and NEWELL, J. July 11, 1945, No. 17734. [Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXVI] Installation systems.-An electrical distribution system, in which conducting bus-bars are supported and insulated in a duct, has fused distribution circuits tapped off from it ; the fuses, fittings and out-going terminals being located in the duct, screened from the busbars and accessible through doors in the duct. A dust or trunking 1 has doors 2 at intervals, and contains conducting bus-bars 6, 7, 8, 9 supported by transverse insulating plates 10 mounted on pillars 11, projecting from the back of the duct. Opposite each door, the pillars carry an insulating plate 12, behind which slides a thin insulating screen plate 14, larger than the door aperture and lotted at 15, 16, 17, 18, so that the bus-bars are accessible when the screen plate is slid to the left, as in Fig. 1, but when it is slid to the right, the apertures are obscured behind the insulating plate 12, on which are mounted outgoing terminals 13b, connected to distribution cables passing through the conduit 31 in the floor of the duct. Insulating fuse holders 19, 19a, 19b, carrying tubular fuses 22, 22a, 22b, have at their ends resilient clip contacts of unequal length, the longer being adapted to engage a bus-bar and the shorter, an appropriate outgoing terminal. No fuse being required in the neutral distribution cable, it is connected to a terminal block 30 carrying a clip contact which engages the neutral bus-bar. In a modification (not shown), complete fuse units are mounted on a common base, together with a neutral terminal, each being fitted with a suitable contact clip to engage the appropriate bus-bar. Outgoing cables are connected direct to the fuse units and to the neutral terminal, While the contact clips are strong enough to form the only support for the complete plug-in units. The invention is suitable for 2, 3 or 4 wire systems, and for use as a rising main, for example in blocks of fiats.
