560,541. Optical systems. TAYLOR, TAYLOR, & HOBSON, Ltd., WARMISHAM, A., and HOPKINS, H. H. Oct. 5, 1942, No. 13959. Drawings to Specification. [Class 97 (i)] An objective for profile projection comprises a divergent member between, and spaced from, convergent members, in conjunction with a small stop, or its equivalent, located substantially in a position at which rays parallel to the axis, entrant from the rear, come to a focus on the axis, the objective being corrected for chromatic aberration, astigmatism, and distortion with respect to the stop position, and having a substantially flat image field. The objective may be a triplet comprising simple elements, or one convergent member may be compound or divided into spaced components ; the cemented surface of the compound component may be convergent and convex to the front. Magnesium oxide crystal may be used for simple convergent elements. Conditions for radii, refractive indices, and overall length, and complete data for seven examples are set out. Specifications 444,350 and 550,754 are referred to.
