Abstract

560,297. Buttons. BRITISH CELANESE, Ltd. May 18, 1942, No. 6694. Convention date, May 17, 1941. [Class 43] [Also in Group VIII] A soft pliable button is formed of a plurality of layers of textile fabric at least one of which contains non-thermo-plastic textile fibres, the layers being bonded together by fibres of a water-insoluble organic thermoplastic filmforming material contained in one of said layers. In an example top and back fabric layers may be woven or knitted and may consist of cellulose, wool, silk &c., and the thermoplastic bonding material may constitute an intermediate layer consisting of a fabric containing fibres of cellulose acetate. The outer fabric may also contain bonding material. Plasticizers may be used and the layers bonded by heat and pressure. As the thermoplastic material, other cellulose compounds are specified including ethers, esters, and ether-esters, e.g. cellulose propionate, butyrate, acetatepropionate and nitrate-acetate ; ethyl, propyl and butyl cellulose and ethyl cellulose acetate polymerized vinyl compounds are also specified, including polyvinyl acetate, chloride and chloracetate and copolymers of these esters ; polyvinyl ethers including the condensation products of aldehydes with polyvinyl compounds ; polymerized compounds of the acrylic ester series such as polymerized methyl methacrylate and other such resins may also be used as the thermoplastic material.
