560,269. Aeroplane gun turrets. ARMSTRONG WHITWORTH AIRCRAFT, Ltd., SIR W. G:, and LLOYD, J. Nov. 3, 1942, No. 15457. [Class 4] [Also in Group XXI] An aircraft gun turret 20 is rotatably mounted on a platform 19 which extends behind the turret to form the floor. of a chamber 13, which may be a pressure cabin, the latter being formed with a portion 24 which is outside and extends over the turret, and intowhich a gunner standing on the floor 19, can lean in order to sight. The turret may be shaped to' form a continuation of the curved sides 26 of the fuselage when the guns 21, 22, are in the position shown in full lines in Fig. 2, and may be so mounted that, when the guns are traversed, the air pressure on the projecting parts on one side of the fuselage in part balances the pressure on corresponding parts on the other side. The guns are fed with ammunition by trunks 23 which enterthe turret substantially in line with its vertical axis. Specification 545,459 is referred to.
